We collect the following information when you use Speechwave:
Audience members who use the reaction page are anonymous. We do not collect any personal information from audience members. To count how many people reacted, the reaction page creates a random identifier and keeps it in your browser's local storage for that talk. It contains nothing about you or your device and is not shared between talks. Our server stores only a one-way hash of it combined with the session, so reactions cannot be linked across sessions. You can clear the identifier at any time by clearing your browser's site data.
We use your email address to send login links (we use passwordless, magic-link authentication) and to confirm changes when you update your account email. We use usage data solely to provide and improve the Service, including enforcing free tier limits.
Your data is stored on infrastructure provided by Fly.io, located in the United States. Your Speechwave API key, when used with the Chrome extension, is cached locally in your browser's storage instead, so you stay connected between sessions.
We keep backups of our database so we can recover from failures. Data you delete is removed from those backups within 30 days.
We keep your account, talks, sessions and reaction counts until you delete your account. We may remove accounts that have been inactive for a long time, at our discretion, and we do not promise to keep an inactive account for any length of time. If you want a copy of your data, you can download it from Settings. An account that never logs in is deleted automatically after 15 days. Login sessions last 14 days, login links expire after 15 minutes, and email change links expire after 7 days. Our hosting provider (Fly.io) and our email provider (Resend) keep their own logs under their own policies. We do not control those policies and they may change.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties, except the providers that run the service for us, such as hosting and email delivery, and as required by law.
We use a session cookie to keep you logged in. No third-party tracking cookies are used.
You can download a copy of your data yourself from the Settings page, using the "Download my data" button. You get a zip with your account details, linked sign-in providers, consent records, talks and sessions, and the number of reactions each session received, in a machine-readable JSON file with a schema and a README. It leaves out your API key and login tokens, which are credentials, and individual audience reactions, which come from your audience, not from you. If you want something the download does not cover, or you cannot sign in, email us at admin@speechwave.live.
You can delete your account yourself from the Settings page. Deleting it removes your account and all associated data, including your talks, sessions, reactions and settings, immediately. Deleted data is removed from our backups within 30 days.
To stop a deleted account from being restored from a backup during that 30 day window, we keep an anonymous account identifier. It is a number and the date of the deletion, with no email address or other personal details. After 30 days only the date of the deletion remains, with no identifier.
If you cannot sign in, you can ask us to delete your account by emailing us at admin@speechwave.live. We will process your request within 30 days.
We may update this policy from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
